Owlbear nightmare

At the risk of triggering the somewhat brave (but definitely speedy) adventurers who experienced the tale, allow me to recap: Having left the company of Perlivash and Tig-Titter-Tut in our previous session, a session which also saw a cursed druid/bear attack and a ruined temple made sacred again, our intrepid group checked out said temple but found it a ruined, empty shell. They then started the journey back to Oleg and Svetlana’s outpost.

Things were calm at first. They set up camp and Lore had the first watch. She was engrossed in something, which caused her to miss the signs of an owlbear approaching. Twigs snapping, owlbear snorting, and the like. She finally heard some nearby rustling, which gave her time to alert the rest of party. The next thing they knew, it glided down from a treetop (who knew they could that?) and rushed at Pim. Also, they quickly realized that the owlbear was the same one that had attacked them a week or so before!

The owlbear screeched terrifyingly, grabbed Pim, clawed him, and tucked him under his winged left arm. Then it headed over to attack someone else, with Pim along for the ride. Wondrously, it tripped on a spherical rock (or perhaps a cylindrical stick), fell hard on its head, and fell unconscious! That’s what happens when the gm rolls a 1.

Our players used the interlude to run away. A chase ensued, wherein they encountered every.single.denizen and bit of muck in the forest with the owlbear hot on their collective tails. Somehow they managed to stay ahead of it and escape the forest and get to Oleg’s.

They warned Kesten, bought some potions from Bokken, and went to sleep.

I’ve got some busy weekends coming up, so unfortunately we won’t be able to play for a bit. Here’s a new poll.
