And some birds and sea lions and a skate!
We saw these at Elkhorn Slough, near Monterey, California. We went on a boat ride up the slough, with a tour guide who is a naturalist. She and the pilot were great…very informative.
I and a little girl saw a skate (which looks like a really small manta ray or sting ray, about 6 inches or so across) around the same time. The pilot said they are very rare in the area, and that in the 17 years he’d been boating in the slough, he’d never seen one.
Otters, on the other hand, are no rare. I’ll have more pics soon. Here’s one to get started with:
